Community cafes, shops, food hubs and associations

We have several community hubs that are at the heart of our neighbourhoods.

They do an incredible job of supporting people - whether this is running food banks, cafes and community food and thrift shops (where food and essential items can be purchased at a much-reduced price), helping with access to employment and training, youth clubs, and activities to make a new friend or learn a new skill.

Build a remote-controlled car, bird box making, martial arts, candle making and a community café. These are just some of the many free activities offered to Leyland residents via the community-run The Base project.

The Base is a community centre on Bannister Drive in Leyland, Lancashire. It is a place for the whole community to get involved, with drop-in sessions for women, men, and children and is run by residents for residents.

Working with local volunteers, the Base runs a community café each week. Visit the cafe from Monday 10am to 4pm. There’s a chance for a bacon butty and a brew and to meet others in your community.

Pop in for a brew and a chat at The Base II, Bannister Drive, Leyland, PR25 2GD, where you will find a warm welcome Monday to Thursday between 10am and 4pm.

Plus, The Base runs youth clubs each week, providing activities for a range of ages to provide positive opportunities.

Please check The Base Facebook Page: @thebaseonbroadfield for the most up-to-date details on the latest times and activities, or call Andrea on 07976 707 826.

The Base One Stop

The Base One Stop is a community shop (open 10am to 5pm, on Wednesdays) hat provides community members from Leyland's Broadfield area with access to good quality food. Members pay a small weekly fee, and anyone from the community can join.

Anyone wishing to join the scheme must complete a simple registration form. There is no joining fee; members just pay £2.50 per week and in return, can select 10 items of food from the shop. The value of the shop varies, but this will typically be between £15 and £20. There will also be ‘special offers’ available and complimentary items from week to week. It is a fantastic way for the community to top up their weekly shop.

The Base One Stop is predominately supplied by Fareshare, a large charity receiving excess and surplus food from most big supermarkets and manufacturers.

Fareshare then redistributes it to charities and community groups, like ours, for a fee. The food they provide is very varied, and we never know what we are going to receive each week, so the choice of food will vary.

Clothing and bric-a-brac

The Base's clothing and bric-a-brac exchange is open Monday to Friday, 10am to 3pm.
